  2. the official list of servers is small fraction of all the servers. use a different server list. i don't remember what they are as i type this, there are several lists. some list 100s or 1000s servers. sort across multiple criteria.
  3. What happened if the server close down? So I would lost my toots/messages and need to start over in another Mastodon server? Edit: Would it be possible to develop Mastodon to leverage blockchain technology, so that some Mastodons servers/society could persist the data of each other? In case one of the Mastodon society would close down?
  4. There's a million and a half people on the main instance, that's not a short number, yet OP has trouble finding hits for Star Wars. 7. We had 70-odd followers, and a pretty healthy follow-back ratio. However, the record that was left on Mastodon.art showed 12—somehow 50 or so were unfollowed. Having been on Mastodon.art for five years, we doubt there was any manipulation, but the software may have operated in a way to do some kind of mass unfollow in the event of suspension.
  8. I've tried swtiching servers and it does seem like a headache, so ideally I'd get on a "large" server that seems like it would be more likely to stick around for the long term, and the "flagship" instances of the actual Mastodon nonprofit organization seem like would be the logical route for longevity.
